How To Get Rid Of Stomach Fat

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

By Charles Boisvert Hi! First let’s get one thing straight. I’m not a big named bodybuilder. I do not have 20 inch arms and a 52 inch chest . But I do love to workout. Yes, I have made gains and for the most part I was pretty happy with the added muscle mass and shape that I had achieved. But I was never totally satisfied. My waistline just wasn’t going down and my six pack abs where none existing. At home in the bathroom mirror, I would tense up my abs real hard to see if I could see them in the right light but I never did. I would pull in my waist whenever my shirt was off, and I would even tape my waistline and get an incredible 34-inch waist measurement, but I was fooling myself. One day behind locked doors in the privacy of my bathroom, I got up the courage to fully relax my waistline and blushed to find it was actually a tad over 40 inchs. I quickly tucked in my shirt and went into my computer room and started surfing aimlessly. I was actually shaking with disappointment. Here I was, training and eating sensibly (so I tough) yet the truth of the matter is …I was FAT! It was then I stumble upon the book “Firm and Flatten your Abs” I had seen this book advertised on the internet before but for some reason, I hadn’t considered actually buying it. Well, call it fate or fortune. I bought it that day. It happened this way… A few months back, after I realized that all I needed was some guidance and a real weight loss plan, my buddies and I where in the changing room after a game of touch football. I was covered up as usual with my sweatshirt hanging loose over my now baggy pants. Then one of my friends lifted up his shirt and started posing his abs in the mirror. My other two buddies joined in, each trying to outdo the other. “Hey Charles let’s see your abs!” They chorused. For once in my life the call to show off my bod made me feel great inside. I stepped towards the mirror between my friends and fumbled with my shirt. There were snickers and some laughter. But when they saw my abs they were totally shocked. There was a brief silence followed by shocked surprise. A half dozen gasps filled the air… Then there was a collective series of “wows” and “awesome”. It was the best day of my life! That is why I am sharing my story so that others who are struggling with there weight can feel as good I did that day. Even If You’ve Been Overweight And Out Of Shape For Years… Even If You Have 100 Pounds Or More To Lose… Even If You’re Laid Up With Low Back Pain… I Can Show You How To Flatten Your Abs… And You Can Learn The Secrets Today How To Lose Stomach fat Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Charles_Boisvert http://EzineArticles.com/?How-To-Get-Rid-Of-Stomach-Fat&id=463441 buy discount tramadol cheap tramadol online tramadol online overnight buy tramadol online without a prescription

How to Set Up Your Target Calorie Intake?

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

By Hristo Hristov The law of bodyweight regulation states that calories control bodyweight. To lose weight, you need to create a negative calorie balance (eat fewer calories than you burn). To gain weight, you need to create a positive calorie balance (eat more calories than you burn). The first step you need to do is estimate what amount of calories you burn every day. All calculations start by estimating your Resting Metabolic Rate (thats the amount of calories you would burn per day if you dont move at all). Scientists have developed formulas for estimating your RMR (Resting Metabolic Rate). They do it by getting a bunch of people together, measuring their RMR using sophisticated methods and then trying to figure out a formula to match their RMRs using weight, height, age and other factors. To calculate your RMR use this formula: In pounds and inches: Men: RMR = (4.54 x Weight in pounds) + (2.44 x Height in inches) (4.92 x Age) + 5 Women: RMR = (4.54 x Weight in pounds) + (2.44 x Height in inches) (4.92 x Age) - 161 In kilograms and centimeters: Men: RMR = (9.99 x Weight in kg) + (6.25 x Height in cm) + (4.92 x Age) + 5 Women: RMR = (9.99 x Weight in kg) + (6.25 x Height in cm) + (4.92 x Age) - 161 Next, you will need to multiply the RMR by an Activity Coefficient (AC). Here are the average ACs for men and women. Sedentary Men: AC = 1.55 Moderately Active Men: AC = 1.78 Very Active Men: AC = 2.10 Sedentary Women: AC = 1.56 Moderately Active Women: AC = 1.64 Very Active Women: AC = 1.82 Your total daily energy expenditure (the number of calories you burn per day) is:TDEE = RMR x AC It is really simple. Calculate your Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR formula). Find your Activity Coefficient (AC) above and multiple the RMR by the AC. If you want to gain weight, set a target calorie intake above your total daily expenditure. If you want to lose weight, set a target calorie intake below your total daily expenditure. The question now is how much below/above your TDEE to set up your target calorie intake. It depends on your specific weight goals. Have in mind that gaining and losing weight is not the same as gaining and losing fat. Most of the time you are going to gain/lose both fat and lean body mass. The old premise that it takes 3500 calories per pound is wrong. It takes 3500 calories to gain/lose a pound of fat. Lean body mass requires about 500 calories per pound. In kilograms these values are 7700 calories per kilogram of fat and 1100 calories per kilogram of lean body mass. For most people, a calorie plan of plus or minus 300 to 1000 calories per day will do the job. Every week weigh yourself and recalculate your total daily energy expenditure. If your progress is slowing down, add or subtract a bigger number of calories to your TDEE. Finally, let me tell you that the above formulas are for average people. In many situations, there are metabolic adaptations that will slow down/speed up your metabolism. All that means that you are going to cut more and more calories to keep the same rate of weight loss rate and you are going to overeat more and more in order to keep the same rate of weight gain. If you are a female, never eat less than 1200 calories per day. If you are a male, never eat less than 2000 calories per day. And remember, you can cut calories, but you can also burn more calories via exercise. Hristo Hristov owns X3MSoftware, a company specializing in developing diet and fitness tracking software. Why Are You Still Fat?

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

By Jeffrey Hauser I just returned from my athletic club after a 50-minute workout. My wife and I do that five days a week. Shes 50 and Im 58. We also have a few pieces of equipment in our home. So, why the investment and commitment to fitness? Well, the fact is that my mother died at age 50 from obesity and then my previous wife of 29 years, dropped dead from sudden heart attack brought on from decades of being overweight. Those two events certainly focused the issue for me. Keep in shape or die. I was never that heavy, but did put on some pounds here and there. I liked the sweets like most Americans and ate way too many carbs and starches. That was years ago and now Im more careful regarding my diet. Enough about my background. Im writing this article because of something I saw at the gym. We have wide-screen plasma TVs everywhere and I was watching Kevin T., the infomercial guru hawking his latest book. It was a miracle cure for overweight folk. Of course he couldnt tell you much; you had to buy the $30 book. But he hinted that you didnt have to diet or exercise. Just follow some kind of protocol and bingo! The weight is gone. He lost 45 pounds in two months following his own program, or so he claims. So, heres another easy, miracle cure for being fat. Meanwhile, Im sweating on the treadmill when I could be home eating cake and following his advice. Gee, whats wrong with this picture? Whats wrong is our entire concept of success. The harsh truth is that its not suppose to come easily. Whether you are losing weight or amassing a fortune, it takes hard work and commitment. There, I told you the only thing that makes sense. There is no magic bullet, potion or cure for great relationships, saving for retirement, or looking better. I watch the other male and female members who look terrific because they put in their gym time like we do. That is why they look the way they do. Ill also bet they watch what they eat as well. After all, why jeopardize all that time and trouble in the workouts? Ill be willing to bet you are overweight. Most of us are. Whether its a few extras pounds or a whole bunch, were fat. The fast food giants and junk-food manufacturers spend billions convincing us to eat their food. Even the so-called reduced fat kind are filled with calories. So we just eat more of those anyway, thinking we are cheating the scale. Restaurant portions are huge and my wife and I usually bring half home. But the rest of you dont. So, what am I saying here? Im saying that you have to stop whining and do something before you end up like my wife and mother. If not, youll get heart problems, cause liver or kidney damage, retain clogged arteries and as a result, produce a shortened lifespan. Back to the title question. Why are you still fat? You know the risks and yet, you are overweight, for a variety of reasons. Yet you refuse to do anything about it. The problem relates to an action. You have to get moving, quite literally. And you have to cut out the fat. Once you understand that, you will be on your way. When will you start and what will you do? How can someone who has been fat for years change their habits? Its not easy, but it can be done with a few baby steps. First, you have to admit there is a problem. Then you have to chose a course to follow. Try that baby step. So heres the first one. Start moving. Skip TV and the computer and take anywhere form 15 to 30 minutes a day to walk. Grab your MP3 or buy one for 50 bucks. Walk around the block and listen to your favorite tunes. If its raining or snowing, walk around the house or just walk in place. Then, slowly rid your house of the junk food and substitute fruit, veggies, and nuts. Eat a healthy breakfast and try not to snack. Once again, there is no simple cure or way to beat the system. If you dont do this, you will live a shortened life. Its just about guaranteed, regardless of your genes. This is your body and your only shot at life. Treat them both with respect and no one will look at you again and think to themselves, there goes fatso. And youll be able to look in the mirror and smile. Tips For a Successful Honeymoon

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

By Phil De Fontenay Planning a wedding can be a very stressful but also an exciting time. It is one that you need to do a lot of efficient planning for. You will also want to make sure that every last detail is taken into account. Because of this, you will want to make sure that you are thinking about the honeymoon as well. I am sure that you want to find ways to make this one of the best times of your life. Or should I say, both of your lives It is better to start planning at least four to six months prior to the honeymoon. You will want to make sure that you have all the details worked out. Don’t leave anything to chance. Of course, you will want to discuss matters with your fiancé beforehand so that you are sure of what you both want and what you both will be doing. You’ll have to both decide on the destination so that you enjoy this beautiful time together. After all, this is just the start of what you wish is a long and happy marriage. What about the length of your honeymoon? Do you want it to be a long one or a short time away? Work schedules and other important things that are waiting for you at home will have to be taken into account. This will help you decide how long your honeymoon will last for and where you can go. Also keep tabs on your budget. You don’t want to come back to a big financial mess after such a nice time away. You need to stick to the budget as close as possible as well as think about the money that you have to spend while you are away on your honeymoon. This kind of thoughtful planning will give you a much more relaxing time to get to know each other better Don’t forget all the things that you are going to need for the honeymoon. This includes any clothing and personal items that you need to take along with you. Make sure you have all the items you need for the length of time you will be away. You do not want to have to shop for anything major while you are away because chances are the prices are going to be much higher away from home. Items you must make sure are valid well before you leave are passports, birth certificates, and visas for your honeymoon destination if needed. Get these things handled months before you go on your honeymoon. This will ensure that you have all the paper work and items that you will need if you decide to take certain honeymoon destinations. Start saving for your honeymoon early. Plan ahead and try not to leave anything to chance. When you think that you have found that one special person, it could be a good idea to start saving at that point. Anyway, it couldn’t hurt. When things do get serious, you will have a great head start. You will feel much better being prepared and you can have a much more enjoyable honeymoon that will hopefully last for a very long time. Christmas carp–The European Feast

Saturday, September 22nd, 2007

By A.J. Klott Ahh…. The Christmas Carp…Yummmm…. It’s almost Christmas and like most of you out there I can’t wait for that most cherished of holiday traditions-the carving of the Christmas carp. Yes, nothing makes the mouth water and gets me into the holiday mood until I see my wife come walking through that door with our fresh-live “holiday” carp. Whether hand picked from the Three Mile island settling ponds, or homegrown from the depths of the “pristine” waters of Lake Michigan, it is always great to bring the little droopy lipped fellar home, toss him in the bathtub, and thump him on the head on Christmas morning to the squealing delights of the neighborhood kids. Then we deep fry him and chase him down with some delicious squawfish soup. I know, I know, I am making you salivate just at the thought of all these tempting delights-but don’t worry- soon enough you will be passing the carp platter around the table, praising Aunt Lou that this years carp -is the best ever- and asking her how she got that green glow to emit from it’s carcass. Festivally brilliant!!….. Here, in the U.S., we obviously take a different view of the much maligned carp–but in many cultures the above scenario will actually take place. Well, except for the glowing part. In Europe, Asia and other parts of the world the carp is still a viable and very marketable fish. The same fish I have seen drop kicked, eschewed, and tossed aside like an old shoe, actually makes it’s way to many a Christmas feast in other cultures. I just read a story today, about how the Czech Republic is worried that the carp market is being driven downward because of pressure from other fish, like salmon, as well as competition from poultry producers. If you are an American, you are probably sitting there with your nose all crinkled up or have that horrified-I just saw Frankenstein- facial expression right now, and are more than ever convinced that Euros are one fish short of a full stringer. Or, you might be thinking about boxing up some nice freshly caught carpsuckers from your favorite trout stream, and sending them “Fed-Ex” to Ivan Howsaboutafish in Prague. I am telling you-they would be welcome. In Europe, they look at the carp and exclaim things like: “Look at that fish, it is magnificent.” or “The quality of the Czech carp cannot be compared to farm salmon.” or “Check out the lips on that baby.”—OK- I made the last one up– but as you can see they REALLY like carp. So, in the Christmas spirit of giving, let’s all get out there today and catch ourselves a “mess” of carp and get them sent to Europe, so they can have a joyous and carp filled feast. Maybe if we’re lucky, they will send us a bunch of Lutefisk in return!! Now that’s foreign relations…. A.J. War!

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

By Anthony Smith Joshua 5:13-5:14 War - What are the causes and effects of War, How do we deal with the loss of life? The Bible from the beginning is filled with war, the causes and effects. As a veteran and coming from a military family, I understand war and its effects on the general population. Many today, with the war in Iraq, Afghanistan and other places have begun to lose their faith in, Government, Leadership and some even in God. It seams that most people, when it comes to disaster and loss of life, generally blame God for their troubles most ask me, Why did God allow this to happen, If God was in control, why did my family member have to die? Why didnt God warn us? And the decapitations in Iraq and Saudi Arabia, what about them, why didnt God intervene? What makes men so cruel, what are we going to do? All these questions must be answered, so lets take a look at scripture and God will tell us why. Does God have an Armory? Yes. Jer 50:25 The LORD hath opened his armory, and hath brought forth the weapons of his indignation: for this is the work of the Lord GOD of hosts in the land of the Chaldeans. Does God fight wars? Yes Jos 5:13 And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries? {Joshua knew that this was no ordinary man but an emissary from God.} Jos 5:14 And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host [ARMY] of the LORD am I now come. [By the command of God]{The [Angel], Captain, Was there to protect the interest of God and only that}(Was He prepared to fight? Yes.)(Would he intervene? Only at Gods command) And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant? {Joshua was waiting upon the orders from God on the upcoming battle.} God will not intervene into mans affairs but as the Supreme Orator and Or castrator of mankind, His Armies always fight on the behalf of Gods interest, to preserve His will, nothing else. Now remember this changed from the Old Testament Covenant, where God fought the wars of Israel for and with them. Gods promise to Israel and His adopted Children hasnt changed, but He will no longer interfere. God, By His son Jesus at Armageddon, will fight the last war. If youve read the scriptures enough youve found out that God gives us the power over our destiny and our enemies, but we have to learn to use it to glorify God. In the last 200 years, weve seemed to fight wars in the wrong place for the wrong reason, ask yourself this question, Knowing what you know about our wars, would God have approved of all of them? We received the power at Pentecost, but over the last 2,000 years, weve seemed to loose our strength as Christians, we must retrain our people in the use of that power. Why do men and nations fight wars, most times its for gain, political or financial, Oil, Gas, Nuclear, Land ect. Heres Gods answer. Jam 4:1 From whence come wars and fightings among you? Come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? 1. Jam 4:2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. Jam 4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.Jam 4:4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. When Israel fought at Gods command they won victory after victory, when they took it upon themselves they lost, not only land, but also many lives. The wars we have fought, preserving our freedom to worship God and our freedom from bondage we have won, victory after victory, but when we fight for selfish reasons we loose. True or not? The soldier fights under orders and if killed dies an honorable death. Weather the war being fought is honorable or not, the responsibility for the war lyes with the leaders and their motives. Let God be the Judge. Many good soldiers suffer and die; its been that way since the beginning of wars. Jesus said, 1Pe 4:16 Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. Death is inevitable, weather it is in war or at peace. The way we live can sometimes have an impact on the way we die. The life force {soul, Spirit} lies outside the body of the fallen, the body no longer suffers, where we must put our emphasis is in the Soul. Lets read a little of Matthew Henry, The Spirit of life from God, quickens dead souls, and shall quicken the dead bodies of his people, and his dying interest in the world. The revival of Gods work and witnesses, will strike terror into the souls of his enemies. Where there is guilt, there is fear; and a persecuting spirit, though cruel, is a cowardly spirit. It will be no small part of the punishment of persecutors, both in this world, and at the great day, that they see the faithful servants of God honored and advanced. The next question is, What can I do, what will I do? Heres Gods reply, Mat 24:6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. The next one was, Is God still in control? Rev 17:17 For God hath put in their hearts to fulfill His will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled. Our Heavenly Father is always in control. We have been given the freedom of choice, the choices we make are under our control. The last two wars will be supernatural wars fought by the Lord of Host. Isa 10:5 O Assyrian {Anti-christ}, the rod of mine anger {God}, and the staff in their hand {Power} is mine indignation {Wrath, Anger}. Isa 10:24 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD of hosts, O my people that dwellest in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian {Anti-christ}: he shall smite thee with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against thee, after the manner of Egypt. What about all the innocent people that have been killed?Rev 6:9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held: Rev 6:10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? Beheading will kill many, many will continue to be slain for the word of God. Beheading is the worst, cruelest of deaths, but it will continue to occur, we cannot stop it. The Revelation of Jesus will be fulfilled, the thing to ask is, What type of person should we be when it comes our time to meet the Lord? Ive heard many mothers and fathers cry for loved ones that have past on and the biggest answer they receive when they look for words of comfort are, You will see them in the next life. Or Their in the arms of God. These answers seem un-comforting to many, they look for deeper release from their grief. My thoughts are to say, Your (Son)(Daughter) lived a life that was to be, they have fulfilled their destiny. Being in the arms of God is their reward for many years of faithful service to the one that gave them this time upon the earth. To be able to show love and receive love from those that were close to them. Their life has not ended but has just begun. Rest in the thought and assurance that they are in receipt of the promises of the Father. The life that they have lived was a one of honor and dedication to, family, friends and Country. Let them go, remember them fondly, and Glorify God, for having this time to be with them. Rom 13:7 Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor.Vengeance is mine sayeth the Lord, I will repay. Be not troubled by the news, papers, radio or any reports of war. We know as followers of Christ that these things will come about. We must Honor the Leaders, the Fallen and most importantly God. The Way to Lose Weight Easily & Permanently Without Drugs

Sunday, September 16th, 2007

By Nick Arrizza, M.D. One of the main causes of obesity on this planet relates to the fact that many of the foods that are being consumed cannot be processed by the livers of the individuals who are consuming them. Another way to say this is that these individuals have “food sensitivities” to some of the foods that they are consuming.Sensitivity to food has been linked to many factors i.e. amount consumed, whether they are organic or not, genetic predisposition, blood type etc. What is also interesting is that one’s food sensitivity profile can change over time. In other words one must shift what they choose to eat from time to time. So how is food sensitivity linked to obesity? Well very simply when your body cannot process a given food that food is “seen” by the body as toxic to it. Once this happens the body attempts to deal with the offending agent. It does this by walling it up in fat. In order to do this it has to produce more fat. Hence the more food you consume that you are sensitive to the more fat you accumulate, pure and simple. As you start to consume only those foods that your body can use then the amount of fat produced is reduced and this allows the body to begin to clear the already stored toxins from the body and this is experienced as the loss of weight or the reduction of one’s obesity problem. So here is my prescription for a solution to your obesity problem; 1. Eat only certified organically grown foods. 2. Have food sensitivity testing done on yourself every couple of years. 3. Follow your personal food sensitivity schedule. 4. Do this under the supervision of your naturopath who will likely need to supplement your diet with necessary viatmins and minerals. 5. Get adequate exercise and sleep. On point 2 above I would recommend what is called Electro Dermal Screening or EDS testing. You can research this on the internet and find someone close to you who does this. Be warned however that when you do this research you will likely read a great deal of material, especially from the medical profession that claims that EDS testing is nothing other than quackery. I’ve tried EDS myself twice after almost dying because the medical profession could not help me heal from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome that had dietary roots. It literally saved my life, but don’t take it from me, always have your own experience and see for yourself. By Alix Williams For most Westerners, their only knowledge of frankincense and myrrh comes from the biblical tale that they formed two of the three gifts (the other being gold) given by the wise men at the birth of Jesus. Little do most realize, however, that at the time Jesus is thought to have been born, these two gifts were highly prized and were considered far more valuable than mere gold. Frankincense and myrrh have been valued for their aromatic properties throughout the ages. As long ago as 1000 BCE, there was extensive trade in both throughout the ancient world. As the trees from which both resins are obtained are native to only small regions of the world, this high demand linked with limited availability meant that frankincense and myrrh were, at this time, worth much more than their weight in gold. Frankincense Frankincense (also known as olibanum) is an aromatic resin obtained from species of shrubs (Boswellia thurifera, B. sacra or B. carterii) native only to north-east Africa and the Red Sea region. The name frankincense is probably derived from the phrase incense of the Franks, after the Frankish Crusaders who introduced it to Europe. The word olibanum is thought to be derived from the Arabic al-lubn (the milk). Frankincense resin is collected by making incisions into the bark of the tree. The thick milky-white liquid obtained then solidifies into pea-sized tears, which are amber in colour. The tears and essential oil (obtained by steam distillation of the tears) are still widely used today, in incense, perfumes and aromatherapy. Medicinal Action and Uses The warm, sweet, rich resinous fragrance of frankincense made the resin an extremely desirable commodity, and it was popular throughout the ancient world, in Babylon, Assyria, Egypt, Persia, Rome, Greece and China. The earliest recorded mention of frankincense is on a 15th century BCE Egyptian tomb. The main use associated with frankincense is, of course, as an ingredient of incense for use in religious ceremonies. Records show that frankincense was used in this way by the Babylonians, Persians, Assyrians and the Egyptians. Today, frankincense is still a main ingredient in many different types of incense. For the Greeks and Romans, the use of frankincense was not limited to incense; it was also burnt on braziers to perfume the home. The Egyptians also had other uses for frankincense ground into a black powder, the burnt remains of the resin were also used as kohl for painting the eyelids. Frankincense was also used as a perfume at this time, and the essential oil, which evaporates slowly, remains important to the perfumery industry today. The tears and essential oil of frankincense are also used in potpourri. Although frankincense is not used today in Western medicine, historically it has been attributed with a range of medicinal properties: hemlock poisoning, cancer, vomiting, dysentery and fevers are some of the illnesses for which frankincense has been recorded as being used. In China, frankincense is still used widely as part of traditional Chinese medicine. Frankincense and aromatherapy Frankincense also has a role in aromatherapy and is often described as a rejuvenating essential oil. The aroma of frankincense, once inhaled, is calming and helps clear the head; it is a popular essential oil for use during prayer and meditation. Inhalation of the aroma can also be useful in dealing with many of the symptoms of distress and panic and stress-related disorders. Steam inhalation can also be helpful in respiratory ailments such as laryngitis, coughs and catarrh. Aromatherapy massage using frankincense essential oil in a carrier oil, on the face, neck and scalp, can be used for skin care (especially for mature skin), acne, abscesses, scars and wounds, and may also provide effective relief for tension headaches. A warm bath containing a few drops of frankincense oil helps counteract the effects of nightmares and sudden fears. Frankincense oil mixes well with other spice oils, citrus oils, basil, cedarwood, cypress, eucalyptus, juniper berry, geranium, lavender, myrrh, neroli, rose, sandalwood, vetiver and patchouli essential oils. Myrrh Myrrh is a red-brown resin with a bitter taste (its name derives from the Hebrew murr or maror, meaning bitter) obtained from a species of tree (Commiphora) native to Somalia and the eastern parts of Ethiopia. Like frankincense, myrrh is collected by making incisions into the bark of the tree. The gum that oozes out hardens into dark yellow-reddish tears, which together with the essential oil (also obtained by steam distillation of the tears) are widely used in incense, perfumes and aromatherapy. Myrrh has a warm, rich, spicy balsamic odour that is sometimes slightly bitter, and was, like frankincense, an extremely valuable commodity during ancient times. It was mainly used in the embalming process, to delay the decay of the body and to mask the noxious odours. Like frankincense, myrrh was often a component of the incense used in religious ceremonies. These associations, together with its bitter taste, meant that myrrh came to represent death, suffering and sorrow. Legend has it that the fire on which the phoenix would die and then be reborn was fuelled by myrrh and other spices. During biblical times myrrh, both as a powder and as the essential oil, was also used in expensive perfumes. Medicinal Action and UsesMyrrh has been attributed with many medicinal uses. In ancient times it was used for cleaning wounds and, as late as the 19th century CE, it was being administered as a treatment for coughs, colds, sore throats, halitosis, gum disease and gonorrhoea. Myrrh resin has since been shown to be anti-inflammatory, antifungal, antimicrobial and antiseptic, and is still used today in mouthwashes and toothpastes, and in a number of liniments and healing salves for minor skin problems. Until morphine and other painkillers were introduced, myrrh was a common analgesic. Myrrh is nowadays used as a constituent in some cosmetics, and as a flavouring in foods. Myrrh and aromatherapy Like frankincense, myrrh is often described as a rejuvenating essential oil. Myrrh essential oil can be used to treat skin problems (e.g. eczema, dermatitis, scars, wounds), mouth ulcers, gum infections and sore throats, and fungal infections such athletes foot and thrush. The essential oil blends well with cedarwood, coriander, cypress, frankincense, geranium, juniper, lemongrass and patchouli. Conclusion Frankincense and myrrh, prized for their fragrances since ancient times, can both claim significant places in the long history of fragrance. Despite their age, these aromas still have an impact on our lives, and will continue to do so for years to come. Finding Your Best Hairstyle

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

By Toni Johnson We see them everywhere; on TV, on magazine covers while we wait in shopping lines, and sometimes,on occasion, on a friend or a stranger. Just seeing a great hairstyle and falling in love with it is only the bare beginnings of creating a whole new you. Before sitting in your stylist’s chair and expecting miracles from him or her, let’s discuss what you need to take into consideration before those scissors touch a single strand. First of all, consider your lifestyle. Do you work indoors in an office all day? You can afford to spend the extra time on your look should you desire since there should be nothing working against your hair such as wind or rain. Or are you out in the elements? Perhaps you go to the gym after work and need a style that dries by itself and yet still looks presentable? A precision cut or permanent wave may suit this type as they both would dry stylishly on their own. Longer hair of course should be clipped up in the wind to protect its health as well as its beauty. Secondly, how much time do you really have to spend in the morning to create your fabulous look on a daily basis. Not how much time you’d like to spend or think you will, yet the harsh reality of how many actual minutes on the ticking clock do you have before you really need to hit the road to work or school? An everyday look should fit into your routine. Should you only need a few, quick curls, then plugging in the old curling iron every morning will become second nature having it ready for a couple of quick applications. Do you shower in the morning and would rather have a cut that you can just blow dry or flatiron and have it lay right in place? Your style will demand more trips to the salon for trims as any style that has that precision cut to keep it low-maintenance will have to have the style kept “in shape”. And this doesn’t necessarily mean a short haircut as medium length styles can have blunt lines or textured ends to speed up the styling process having them styled straight or perhaps in a little “flip”. Have a little more time to spend on your do? Perhaps you would like a little more body or curl. Large, loose curls are are the rage now, ranging from gigantic 3-5 vertical curls that are left undisturbed to fall freely during the day to the more time-consuming S-waves. Should you prefer the latter on a regular basis, you should consider a design-wrap perm to lock these defined patterns in and cut your styling time way down. This will be less damaging to your hair in the long run as you won’t be applying the direct heat from appliances on a daily basis. So now you have an idea of time and environment. The next step is the hardest. Your head and facial shapes, as well as your neck structure are all very important things to consider in determining how well you might carry off that cute style you just saw. Unless you are fortunate enough to have a perfect oval face, a well defined jawline, a sleek neck of average length, all of which are well-balanced enabling you to wear short, medium or long styles of any type, you need to face the facts that you probably cannot wear just any hairstyle that you fall in love with. Brush all your hair back off of your face, clip it or place a headband. What do you see? An oval, a square shape? Heart? Is it oblong? Or Diamond shaped? Square, Heart and Oblong shapes usually tend to have “high foreheads”. These require a part close to the center that allows hair to fall along the temples and covers up the majority of the forehead. Though the best remedy for this situation are bangs, or as they call them abroad, fringe. Bangs cover or break up areas that we would prefer to disguise. Diamond and Heart shaped faces have very narrow chins and styles that hit about the jawline is best to help “fill in” this weak area. Or a longer style could be worn with layering in this area that may be textured with curls which would also serve the same purpose. However, Square and Oblong shapes have thick, wide jawlines and it’s best to draw attention away from this area. These face shapes should not have a hairstyle that widens this area further. Hair should be flat (straight) against the sides of their chins or at least much longer or shorter to draw attention up or down away from the chin or jawline. Remember this can apply to anyone with a double chin or thick throat area as well. These same rules apply to the top of the face. A short forehead, one who has a hairline that comes down close to the eyebrows, also needs camouflaging. Bangs are an option here. Diamond, Square and Oblong shapes do not want hairstyles that comb back to expose these flaws. It’s best to allow hair to fall on the forehead somehow to disguise your less than perfect hairline. A Diamond or Oblong shaped face needs to be very careful to avoid hairstyles with fullness across the nose and eye level as these styles will only make their face shape appear wider here. Neck length can appear shorter or longer according to your needs, depending on your style and its length. This physical characteristic is often overlooked. Now to discuss your hair color. Yes, it’s something you really need to consider as it can make or break any hairstyle. You can have the best haircut in the world for you, however, if the color is all wrong, it ruins the whole look. For those of you, who already color their hair or are considering it, know these important factors. Black and very dark shades are not just for the young-at-heart, they are for the younger and younger looking crowd only. These unforgiving colors will only harshen the features of anyone who has found themselves with fine lines and wrinkles. Very fair, porcelain skin should steer clear of very light shades as this usually washes them out. Determine if you are a warm or a cool color person. Yes, it’s something else to think about, yet it is a good thing to know not just for hair color, yet for makeup color and clothing colors as well. While some folks are lucky enough to wear either one, some look only good in one or the other. Look good in pinks, blues, or violets? These make you a “cool color person”. Only look good in warm colors? Then you usually select reds, oranges, or yellows. Green is a neutral shade and some colors steer away from their usual temperature. For example, red can be cool if it has purple undertones like say a burgundy and yet it can be quite warm if it has more of an orange cast to it. Why is all of this important? Well, if you are a cool color person, you cannot wear true reds or an auburn hair color unfortunately. Ever see a redhead wearing purple clothes? This is an extreme example, yet I think you get the picture. Likewise if you only look good in warm colors, anything violet, blue or possessing a blue cast would be out of the question. Yes, there IS a lot to consider when you are talking beauty and fashion. However, once you sift through all the determining factors and find what really works best for you, you’ll learn to really spot a great haircut or style that would be perfect for you instantaneously. And shopping for clothes and makeup will become much easier and fun! Spare yourself the heartache of crying yourself to sleep knowing your hair will take forever to grow out from a bad style. Find a stylist who will really, truly listen and who has this knowledge and then some. ALWAYS take pictures with you when you want to make a hairstyle change. Not only will you know both of you are on the same page about your looks, you will reap the rewards of all your homework and knowledge. And feeling better about yourself can only lead to more confidence and a better outlook on life in general.
